About You

Hello and welcome! Thank you for stumbling into my world. Im here to help navigate you through all your design goals, questions and decisions., Designing a space can feel very overwhelming. In a world where everything is so commercialized, I want to deliver an experience that feels truly special. Our homes are a place where we can reflect our most desirable selves, connect with our experiences, change our mood and tell an authentic story. Everyone wants a successful outcome and that comes with experience, understanding scale, balance, colour theory, pattern, lighting and so much more to achieve a harmonious space. Together we can avoid a copy pasted version of someone else and create a space that feels personal, intentional, and uniquely yours.  Please feel free to reach out to me about anything.

About Me

I want to get to know you, so it's only fair you get to know me. My name is Maryum. I'm a freelance interior designer and hobbyist finishing artist. Let's start way back in 2021 when my boyfriend Mitchell and I ventured into purchasing our first house. It's COVID and the housing market is HOT! I had moved so many times in the previous 7 years (12 to be exact), I was thrilled to find and settle into a permanent home. After being outbid on countless houses for months, we finally won over a neglected fixer upper in Welland, ON where we now live. We spent all our savings, time and resources on our new found love and started settling into home ownership. With lots of help from family and friends, we got to work. (lots and lots of work!) When it came to making design decisions, I fell in love with the experience, the reward of creating something unique and personal. After studying the history, principles, elements and work of other established designers, my confidence grew and so did my passion. I began experimenting, visualizing every detail, making bold decisions and have been heavily rewarded as we see our home slowly but surely transform. Fast forward to today where I apply all the skills and techniques I've learned to help others uncover the potential of their home with confidence.

Taken the day we closed on our first home on a hot evening in June, 2021

About Style

Most people are under the impression they have to pick one design style and stick to it to design successfully and, though that may be true in some cases, in others it can start to look flat, outdated and impersonal. Most design styles are reactions and adaptations to different periods in history. Knowing how and when to mix styles is an art, you have to understand the past, find relationships, consider your architecture and look at pieces as a whole, rather than individually. I love designing in many ranges of styles but feel very drawn to a transitional approach. Featuring notions from the past and effortlessly blending with a contemporary twist keeps things interesting, current and timeless.
